The Places of Jean-Pierre Martinez’s Theatrical Universe

Places, in the broadest sense, cannot be classified a priori according to a typology of theatrical genres, since no place is intrinsically linked to any specific genre.
The same location (a living room, for instance) can serve as the setting for a realistic play just as well as for a symbolist, surrealist, or objectivist one.

It is only when the place is materialised on stage as a set that this set may in itself suggest a specific theatrical genre. Thus, a living-room set may be entirely realistic, include surreal elements (such as a clock whose hands turn backwards), participate fully in an allegory, or, through its bareness or even its absence (an empty stage), suggest objectivism.

Here, we shall simply list all the places that appear in the theatrical universe of Jean-Pierre Martinez, without assuming any particular genre to which they might refer.
